"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." -Matthew 5:16
The Light that we have received has come from God. The Light, that is, the whole truth as to who Jesus Christ is and what God has done in us through Jesus Christ. We are now children of Light, or children of God through Jesus Christ.
This Light that we have received must shine everywhere. Letting our light shine according to this verse is linked to our good works. Good works speak of the Light we have received from God.
Both the light we have received from God and the good works we do because we have been enlightened by God Himself are meant to glorify God in all things. Everything we do should be so that our heavenly Father will be Honoured, Acknowledged and Praised.
So, our endeavour in the new life we have for Christ's sake is that by doing good works God will be glorified. Let us look for ways in which God will be glorified. There will always be things we can do for our neighbour that will glorify God. Let us, then, seek the good of others for the glory of God.
